FTUI Prepares to Open Two New International Class Undergraduate Programs

On Wednesday (3/1), the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI) held a discussion meeting on the opening of the International Special Class Study Program in Environmental Engineering and Computer Engineering. This meeting was chaired by the Vice Dean for Education, Research and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. Ir. Yanuar, M.Eng., M.Sc. and held in the Senate Meeting Room, Dean Building.

Opening this meeting, Prof. Yanuar gave his speech. According to him, in this new study program opening plan, related parties do not need to think about things that are uncertain first. However, it focuses more on proposals that will be submitted to the Academic Quality Assurance Unit. “We must be enthusiastic in opening this new study program,” said Prof. Yanuar.

In this meeting, several things were discussed. Among them is the process of establishing cooperation with FTUI partner campuses. The collaboration program that is being sought to be established by Environmental Engineering and Computer Engineering is with Monash University. In particular, Environmental Engineering seeks to collaborate with KTH Royal Institute of Technology which offers a cooperation scheme of 4 years of study at the FTUI campus and 1 year of study at partner campuses to continue master education. KTH RIT also offers cooperation with Master Double Degree scheme. While Computer Engineering focuses on collaborating with Monash University because there are Electrical and Computer System Engineering and Software Engineering study programs that are very potential to become partners.

Some things are also a concern in this meeting. Among them is the burden on lecturers, where the number of lecturers is not adequate. It is also a question whether lecturers will get English to be able to teach in this international special class study program. Then, who will be responsible for the promotion of this new study program.

Ending the meeting, Prof. Harinaldi said that Environmental Engineering and Computer Engineering try to get the best Double Degree cooperation scheme. “The next stage that needs to be done is to ensure curriculum mapping with potential related partners,” said Prof. Harinaldi.
