Supporting Students to Achieve International Further Studies, FTUI Holds TUM Info Session and DAAD Scholarship Opportunities

On Thursday (04/18), the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI) in collaboration with the Technical University of Munich (TUM) held a TUM Asia Info Session and scholarship opportunities provided by the Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD). The event featured two main speakers, Dr.-Ing. Ali Bawono, PMP, Senior Researcher and Lecturer, Faculty of Rail, Transport, & Logistics TUM Asia, and La Budza, DAAD Scholarship Program Officer and Alumni in Jakarta.

“The S2 scholarships available at TUM through the DAAD scholarship are for Rail, Transports and Logistics study programs; Aerospace Engineering; Green Electronics; Integrated Circuit Design; and Industrial Chemistry. One of the excellent advantages possessed by TUM is that its alumni are quite easy to get jobs after graduation. There are already many DAAD scholarship alumni from UI who are currently working in international and multinational companies, not only in Europe, but also in Singapore and in several other countries,” said Ali Bawono.

The Technical University of Munich (TUM), founded in 1868, is renowned as one of the best technical universities in Europe. TUM has been named the best campus in Germany based on the QS World University Ranking 2024. With the motto “Talents Are Our Assets, Reputation Is Our Return“, TUM is also ranked 13th in Global University Employability according to THE World University Ranking 2023. TUM is known as an entrepreneurial university that breeds talent and creates value for society through a network of partners in research and industry. With seven faculties and more than 50,000 students, TUM has produced 18 Nobel laureates since its founding.

The session continued with an explanation from La Budza about the DAAD Scholarship. “DAAD scholarships are available for all levels of education, ranging from S1, S2, S3 to post-doc. DAAD has 60 offices in different parts of the world and receives funding from the German government and the European Union. To date, DAAD has financed more than 800 students. Speaking of Germany, some of the advantages possessed by this country are its universities that have a good reputation at the global level, complete research institutes, and the absence of tuition fees charged to students, “he explained.

La Budza also explained about special scholarships for postgraduate levels. S3 scholarships from DAAD are research grants for 12 or 24 months in Germany for students who are completing S3 programs in Indonesia. In addition, for those who want to continue S2, DAAD provides a living allowance of 934 Euros / month, while for S3 candidates it is given a total of 1300 Euros / month. Scholarship recipients are also eligible to apply for insurance, travel allowance, and housing subsidies upon arrival in Germany.

The Dean of FTUI, Prof. Dr. Ir. Heri Hermansyah, S.T., M.Eng., IPU., said, “The collaboration between FTUI and TUM in organizing Info Sessions and discussing DAAD scholarship opportunities is a form of support for FTUI students who are interested in continuing their further studies in Germany. I hope that students can make the best use of this opportunity to develop themselves and contribute at the global level.”
