The Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI), together with the Faculty of Industrial Engineering, Bandung Institute of Technology (FTI ITB) and the School of Mechanical and Mining Engineering University of Queensland (UQ), held a joint international conference entitled “International Conference on Nanotechnology and Smart Materials”. This activity lasted for three days from 15 to 17 July 2024, at the Pullman Hotel, Kuta, Bali.
This conference was officially opened by the Dean of FTUI, Prof. Dr. Ir. Heri Hermansyah, M.Eng., IPU. In his remarks, Prof. Heri emphasized the importance of international collaboration in encouraging innovation and technological development. “Nanotechnology and smart materials are very important fields and have great potential to address some of the global challenges facing the world today. Through this conference, we can exchange ideas, build networks, and work together in interdisciplinary collaboration to overcome these challenges,” said Prof. Heri.
The conference was attended by 130 participants from 14 countries consisting of academics, researchers, and industry professionals who gathered to discuss cutting edge research, its progress, and its application in the field of nanotechnology and smart materials. In addition, this event was also held in conjunction with Advances in Materials Research for Sustainable Development (AMRSD) and the2nd International Conference on Sensor Technology (INCOST).
AMRSD, organized by FTUI’s Advanced Materials Research Center, focuses on the development of materials science to achieve sustainable development. Meanwhile, INCOST, organized by Advanced Functional Materials (AFM) ITB, is a forum for researchers to showcase their research work related to sensors and sensing technology.
Prof. Heri said that this conference is an important platform to display the latest developments and explore emerging trends in this field. “This conference brings together leading researchers to share insights while learning from each other, foster new partnerships, and inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers. I encourage participants to be able to actively participate in discussions, ask questions, challenge assumptions, and think boldly about the future,” he added.
Ending his remarks, Prof. Heri invited all participants to make the best use of this conference. “In closing, I would like to remind that we have a great responsibility that needs to be carried out as pioneers in this field. Because the breakthroughs we achieve today will shape the world of the future. Therefore, we need to ensure that the progress we form is guided by the principles of sustainability, equality, and ethical consideration, so that a future can be built that benefits all humanity,” he concluded.
With a diverse program featuring keynote speakers, panel discussions, and interactive sessions, the conference provides an opportunity for experts from around the world to learn about the latest breakthroughs in nanotechnology and smart materials. In addition, this conference can also encourage research findings and targeted collaborations for future research. This can be realized in the form of educational and research collaboration, such as joint supervision of postgraduate students, as well as joint research and publications among the institutions involved.
