8 International Students Graduated from FTUI Degree Program

Universitas Indonesia (UI) for the first time held “The 2024 Degree Awarding Ceremony for Universitas Indonesia International Students”, on Tuesday (23/7), at the Makara Art Center UI. The pre-graduation activity entitled “Unveiling Your Great Dreams” as a form of appreciation for international students was attended by 61 students consisting of 6 undergraduate students and 55 master’s program students. 8 of them are foreign students who have completed their education at FTUI.

Present on behalf of the Dean, the Head of the FTUI International Office, Fadhilah Muslim S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., DIC., said, “These international students study at FTUI through several financing schemes. There are independent fee schemes and scholarship schemes, namely the Developing Countries Partnership (KNB) scholarship and the UI Degree Scholarship for International Student (UI GREAT) scholarship which is a flagship scholarship program from UI.”

The eight students are:

  1. Alfred Kampira Levison, a graduate of the Master of Mechanical Engineering Program from Malawi;
  2. Tuba Arshad, a graduate of the Master of Civil Engineering Program from Pakistan;
  3. Mohammad Owais, a graduate of the Master of Civil Engineering Program from Pakistan;
  4. Ricardina Freitas Da Silva, a graduate of the Master of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering Program from Timor Leste;
  5. Fidélio Soares De Carvalho, a graduate of the Master of Electrical Engineering Program from Timor Leste;
  6. Jacinto Cipriano Ximenes Belo, a graduate of the Master of Electrical Engineering Program from Timor Leste;
  7. Mashhood Zahid, a graduate of the Master of Electrical Engineering Program from Pakistan; and
  8. Si Eun Kim, a graduate of the International Class Undergraduate Program in Chemical Engineering from South Korea.

Met on a separate occasion, the Dean of FTUI, Prof. Dr. Ir. Heri Hermansyah, S.T., M.Eng., IPU., said, “Celebrating the achievements of foreign graduates of the Faculty of Engineering UI is a moment full of pride and inspiration. They have demonstrated exceptional dedication, navigating academic and cultural challenges with exemplary courage and determination. We are proud of their contributions that not only enrich our academic environment, but also strengthen international cooperation that is crucial to the advancement of science and technology. Hopefully the success achieved at FTUI will be a strong foundation for a glorious future and have a positive impact on the global world.”

At the awarding event, the Head of the UI International Affairs Office, drg. Baiduri Widanarko, M.KKK, Ph.D, said that 61 international students who graduated this year came from 23 countries. “They are students from Zimbabwe (12 people), Pakistan (10 people), Timor Leste (8 people), the United Republic of Tanzania (5 people), and the Republic of Korea (3 people). Meanwhile, Nigeria, Malawi, India, Iran, and the Philippines, each have 2 graduates, while the countries of Gambia, Mexico, Palestine, Sudan, South Sudan, Kenya, Madagascar, Yemen, Tajikistan, Myanmar, Fiji, Cambodia, and China, each have 1 graduate.”

The 2024 Degree Awarding Ceremony for Universitas Indonesia International Students was also attended by 17 representatives from 14 embassies of friendly countries, namely Cambodia, Tanzania, Mexico, Nigeria, Kenya, Fiji, Zimbabwe, the Philippines, Iran, the Republic of Korea, Yemen, Timor-Leste, India, and Pakistan. Also present were representatives from the Directorate General of Immigration of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia (RI) and the Institutional Directorate of the Directorate General of Higher Education, Research, and Technology of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia; Deans/Vice Deans of the Faculty; as well as the Director and Head of UI Unit/Office with their staff.
