Universitas Indonesia (UI) is always striving to increase N-Helix collaboration, both at the local and global levels. This collaboration at the global level is especially carried out with well-known universities in a country. Strategic steps to develop this international cooperation at the Faculty of Engineering (FT) UI include the identification and mapping of partner universities that have superior programs and research in accordance with the vision and mission of the faculty. The Dean of FTUI, Prof. Dr. Ir. Heri Hermansyah, S.T., M.Eng., IPU, said that with these strategic steps, FTUI not only opens new opportunities for students but also strengthens their position in the international higher education scene.
“The ranking of UI with the Best Engineering Campus in Indonesia based on the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Ranking (WUR) for two consecutive years (2023 and 2024) also makes it easier for us to knock on doors and open opportunities for international collaboration. This is in line with FTUI’s commitment to continue to innovate and improve the quality of education and research for the advancement of science and technology and have a positive impact on the progress and welfare of the community,” said Prof. Heri
The ease of opening up opportunities for collaboration was evidenced when the FTUI delegation visited several leading universities in the UK, the University of Exeter, the University of Leeds, the University of Glasgow, and the University of Strathclyde. Led by the Vice Dean for Education, Research, and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. Ir. Yanuar, M.Eng., M.Sc., the FTUI delegation consisting of Cooperation, Ventures, and Alumni Managers, Dr.-Ing. Dalhar Susanto and the Secretary of the Department of Civil Engineering, Andyka Kusuma, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D, visited these partners on July 21-29, 2024.
During the visit, FTUI signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) with the University of Exeter, which aims to complete a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the Double Degree program with a 2+2 scheme (2 years of study at UI and 2 years at partner universities) in the Industrial Engineering study program, as well as the Single Degree program with a fee-paying study abroad scheme. In addition, this agreement also includes the development of research collaboration as well as other academic collaboration opportunities.
FTUI also signed an Agreement of Implementation (AoI) with the University of Strathclyde which offers the opportunity for FTUI students to take part in the Double Degree program with a 2+2 scheme in the Marine Engineering and Mechanical Engineering study programs. Students who meet the academic requirements in the final semester at the University of Strathclyde have the opportunity to progress to a master’s program that can be completed in one year. The University of Strathclyde also provides a 15% tuition fee discount for Double Degree and Single Degree students.
Prof. Yanuar said, “The signing of the agreement with the University of Exeter and the University of Strathclyde is a step to expand academic opportunities for FTUI students. In addition to opening access to international standard education, this agreement also provides more comprehensive and adequate study abroad support. In the future, we hope that this collaboration can continue and develop both in the form of academics and research.”
In addition to the two agreements, the FTUI delegation also visited the University of Leeds and the University of Glasgow to discuss various aspects of cooperation, including the development of the Double Degree program, monitoring and evaluation of Double Degree Masters students who have been running with the University of Leeds, as well as opportunities for research collaboration. FTUI is also targeting the University of Menchester to expand cooperation partners and review other potential international cooperation.
