The Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI) and the University of Glasgow held an intensive discussion on the development of a Double Degree program for the Department of Civil Engineering. The meeting which took place at the University of Glasgow (25/07) is the first step in realizing academic collaboration that will provide opportunities for students to obtain double degrees from the two well-known institutions.
FTUI was represented by Prof. Dr. Ir. Yanuar, M.Eng., M.Sc., Vice Dean for Education, Research, and Student Affairs, accompanied by Dr. Ing. Dalhar Susanto, Manager of Cooperation, Ventures, and Alumni, and Andyka Kusuma, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., Secretary of the Department of Civil Engineering.
Meanwhile, the University of Glasgow was represented by a number of professors and leaders of the James Watt School of Engineering, including Professor Andrew McBride (Professor of Computational Mechanics, Deputy-Head of James Watt School of Engineering), Professor Fiona Bradley (Professor of Structural Engineering Design), Professor Scott Roy (Professor of Electronics, Director of Learning & Teaching), Tania Galabova (Head of Professional Services), and Dr Vanessa Johnson (Global Partnership Engagement Lead).
During the discussion, the two sides discussed various technical and administrative aspects of the Double Degree program, including the curriculum, teaching methods, and credit transfer mechanisms. “We are very enthusiastic about the potential of this collaboration,” said Prof. Yanuar. “This Double Degree program will open up new opportunities for students to gain international experience and broaden their horizons in the field of civil engineering.”
Professor Andrew McBride from the University of Glasgow also welcomed the initiative. “The collaboration with FTUI will enrich the learning experience of our students and strengthen the academic relationship between these two institutions. We are committed to providing programs that are not only of high quality but also relevant to the development of the global industry,” he said.
The Dean of FTUI, Prof. Dr. Ir. Heri Hermansyah, S.T., M.Eng., IPU, gave his comments about this collaboration. “The collaboration between FTUI and the University of Glasgow in the form of the Double Degree program is a strategic step that will bring many benefits to both institutions. With this collaboration, we hope to improve the quality of education and research through the exchange of science and technology, as well as expand international networks. I believe that this synergy will produce new innovations that can make a positive contribution to the development of engineering science in Indonesia and the UK,” he said.
With this Double Degree program, it is hoped that FTUI and University of Glasgow students can get a more comprehensive education and be ready to face global challenges in the future. This meeting is a good start for closer and more sustainable cooperation between the two institutions.
