FTUI Holds The 5th JCC UI JICA, Develops Cybersecurity Experts

On (17/9) The 5th Joint Coordination Committee (JCC): UI-JICA Project on Human Resources Development for Cybersecurity Professionals, took place, in the Senate Room, FTUI Dean Building. The event was attended by 31 people from various parties, both from Indonesia and Japan.

The series of events was opened with remarks from Dr. Eng. Arief Udhiarto, S.T., M.T., Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering FTUI. “The collaboration between UI and JICA not only strengthens cybersecurity capabilities in Indonesia, but also encourages the exchange of knowledge globally. This partnership is critical to keeping up with rapid technological developments, while ensuring we remain at the forefront of innovation and security,” he said.

Ir. Hedi Muhammad Idris M.Sc., Ph.D., Head of the Center for Professional Development and Certification, also said in his remarks, “This project is the first step in building a strong cybersecurity ecosystem in Indonesia. By equipping our professionals with the right skills and knowledge, we are laying the foundation for a more secure and resilient digital infrastructure of the future.”

Prof. Ir. Mahmud Sudibandriyo, M.Sc., Ph.D., Acting Dean of FTUI, said, “This collaboration reflects our commitment to forming cybersecurity experts who are able to face security challenges, both at the local and global levels. It is important that we continue to expand these efforts, not only for the benefit of Indonesia, but also to contribute to digital resilience in the ASEAN region.”

In this activity, a presentation was delivered from representatives of the Embassy of Japan, Shimoyama Yuji, and Dr. Ruki Harwahyu from the Department of Electrical Engineering FTUI who conveyed the outline of idCARE.UI activities, including the progress and results that have been achieved. Dr. Ir. Muhammad Salman also shared about the progress and achievements of JICA projects which include collaboration with Keio University and various activities in Indonesia.

The discussion continued with an emphasis on the importance of idCARE’s financial sustainability as well as opportunities for collaboration with ASEAN countries in providing quality training, where the Chairman of CSIRT.ID and idNSA, Rudi Lumanto, suggested that students from other universities be given the opportunity to obtain a certificate from UI, so as to increase the visibility of the program.

Ide Hiroyuki, JICA’s Principal Advisor, outlined the completion plan for this project, with a focus on ensuring the continuity of the project independently in the future. In the discussion session, participants from various backgrounds shared their views on the future of cybersecurity education and the potential for new collaborations that can be explored.

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Kalamullah Ramli, who emphasized the need to prepare professional human resources in the field of cybersecurity to support digital government initiatives. “With the growing digital landscape, it’s critical to have well-trained professionals to maintain our cybersecurity boundaries. The ongoing partnership with JICA ensures that we are able to produce the talent needed to meet the challenges in this field.”

This meeting is expected to strengthen the commitment of UI and JICA in building resilient cybersecurity experts for Indonesia, as well as ensuring the sustainability of this project in the future.
