The University of California Berkeley (UC Berkeley), the best and oldest university in the United States, visited the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia to strengthen international cooperation between the two institutions. This meeting aims to discuss the development of research collaboration, PhD programs and short mobility programs for students.
On Friday (18/10), located in the Leadership Meeting Room, FTUI Dean Building, FTUI received a delegation under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Ir. Heri Hermansyah, S.T., M.Eng., IPU., Dean of FTUI, Dr.rer.pol. Ir. Romadhani Ardi, S.T., M.T., Manager of Student Affairs, Research, and Community Service, and Fadhilah Muslim S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., DIC, Head of International Office. Meanwhile, the UC Berkeley delegation was represented by Matthew P. Sherburne PhD., Assistant Dean of International Partnerships, Olivia Kuo, M.A., Senior Director of International Programs, Sara Valentine, Assistant Director of International Initiative.
Prof. Heri Hermansyah as the Dean of FTUI in his speech said, “The collaboration between FTUI and UC Berkeley is not something new, because FTUI has long established a collaborative relationship with UC Berkeley. I hope that this cooperation will continue and produce more joint projects in the future, both in research, academics, and innovation. With the relationship getting stronger, hopefully FTUI and UC Berkeley can continue to provide real solutions to global challenges and improve the quality of education at both institutions.”
Currently, programs that have been running between FTUI and UC Berkeley include the pre-doctoral program to UCB and the Visiting Research Young Scholar program. This pre-doctoral program aims to select potential PhD candidates to participate in the PhD program at UC Berkeley while the Visiting Research Young Scholar program is a one-year research collaboration in the fields of Energy, Bioengineering and Biomedical Engineering with leading professors from UC Berkeley, where this program is fully supported by LPS (Deposit Insurance Corporation).
“As a form of support for international research collaboration between FTUI and UC Berkeley, KPPM initiated research seed grants, with a scheme where later the recipients of the research seed grants will participate as visiting scholars at UC Berkeley for one month, with the main goal of creating sustainable research collaboration in the field of engineering. This program is expected not only to produce innovative research that makes a real contribution, but also to open up opportunities for knowledge exchange, expand research networks, and increase the visibility of FTUI in the international arena,” said Dr. rer.pol. Ir. Romadhani Ardi, S.T., M.T., Manager of Student Affairs, Research, and Community Service.
