The Department of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (DTS FTUI) in collaboration with the Construction and Infrastructure Management Expertise Group, Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering, ITB, held a public lecture entitled “Managing Business Construction Around the World”. This lecture was held on Thursday (24/10) in the Smart Meeting Room of the FTUI Dean Building by presenting a resource person from Deakin University, Australia, Dr. Igor Martek. Participants were S1, S2, and S3 Civil Engineering FTUI students with the moderator Dr. Mustika Sari, S.Ars, M.T., a lecturer in Civil Engineering FTUI.
Dr. Igor began his material with an explanation of how strategic thinking can determine the long-term impact on companies and industries. With his experience in managing large capital projects in various locations around the world, in the public lecture he conveyed important points in managing his projects.
“In the world of international construction, the success of a project depends heavily on a deep understanding of the five parameters of localization: regulations and permits, geographical conditions, local culture, material resources, and labor skills. Adapting each of these aspects is not just a necessity, but is the key to creating sustainable and efficient solutions in the global market,” said Dr. Igor Martek.
He has successfully managed large capital projects around the world by paying attention to these five parameters. In doing so, he can improve the success and efficiency of international construction projects, while minimizing the risks that may arise from incompatibility with local conditions.
“This guest lecture emphasizes the importance of understanding the diverse global landscape in construction management. By learning from international practices, our students gain valuable insights to create adaptive and sustainable solutions, which are tailored to the needs of local regulations, cultures and environments. Collaborations like this strengthen our commitment to produce graduates who are ready to lead in the global construction industry,” said Prof. Dr. Heri Hermansyah, ST., M.Eng., IPU, Dean of FTUI.
Dr. Igor Martek is currently an academic at Deakin University, Australia. He holds a Bachelor of Architecture (Hons.) and then a Doctorate from the University of Melbourne. He also holds an MBA from the Australian Graduate School of Management, University of NSW, and an MA in International Relations from the Australian National University, Canberra.
He has worked extensively in the industry evaluating, planning, and managing large capital projects in various locations around the world.
