The University of Indonesia as part of the Indonesian society has contributed to solve the problems faced by nation. One of the challenges is carbon emission into the atmosphere due to the massive use of fossil fuels in the transportation sector by conventional vehicles. The University of Indonesia with other universities in Indonesia such as University of Gajah Mada, Institute Technology of Bandung, University of Sebelas Maret, and Institute Technology of Sepuluh November made a project called MOLINA-UI or Mobil Listrik Nasional Universitas Indonesia. The University of Indonesia itself has started research on electric vehicles since 1997 with the Electric Transport Vehicle (KAL) and Bajaj Langit Biru (BALABI). Further development was also carried out in 1998 where both vehicles were driven purely by electric motors. MOLINA UI team has launched the following products:

  1. Electric bus with a capacity of 60 passengers with a maximum motor power of 220 kW and a battery capacity of 300 Ah.
  2. The city car of MEV (Makara Electric Vehicle) 01 city car as the first generation of a converted car with the application of a Brushless Direct Current (BLDC) electric motor was developed by the team with a capacity of 25 kW.
  3. City Car MEV 02, the result of conversion from a conventional car with an alternating current (AC) induction motor which has a capacity of 7.5 kW and a battery capacity of 102 Ah.
  4. City Car MEV 03 as a hybrid car with 32 kW AC induction motor and 102 Ah battery capacity.
  5. Integrated Thermal System for cab and cooling battery
  6. Integrated synthetic jet system for vehicle aerodynamic enhancement
  7. 25 kW electric motor and inverter
  8. Embedding computer equipment and using interfaces to be combined with stability systems and vehicle testing tools.
  9. The charing station uses a power source from PLN as well as a diesel selling system
