FTUI Opens International Class Study Program in Computer Engineering and Environmental Engineering

Faculty of Engineering Universitas Indonesia (FTUI) opened two new study programs in 2024 for the International Class Bachelor education level, namely Computer Engineering and Environmental Engineering. With this addition, FTUI currently provides 11 International Class study programs that prospective UI new students can choose from for the 2024/2025 academic year.

Dean of FTUI Prof. Dr. Ir. Heri Hermansyah, S.T., M.Eng., IPU., said that the opening of the International Class study program in Computer Engineering and Environmental Engineering confirms FTUI’s commitment to improving the quality of education and offering an international standard learning experience. “With a focus on an ever-evolving curriculum, international collaboration, and an emphasis on technological innovation, these two study programs will not only strengthen FTUI’s reputation as a quality educational institution but also open the door to wider international recognition for our alumni in the global industrial and academic world,” said Prof. Heri.

The Computer Engineering and Environmental Engineering study program has been opened since 2006 for the Regular Bachelor education level and has been accredited Superior from LAM Teknik. Both of these study programs also have international accreditation from The Indonesian Accreditation Board for Engineering Education (IABEE). The Computer Engineering Study Program is a special discipline that combines knowledge and competencies regarding hardware, software and other digital electronic devices as well as network connectivity related to computer system engineering and cybersecurity.

Head of Computer Engineering Study Program, Dr. lr. Muhammad Salman, S.T., M.I.T., expressed his hopes regarding the opening of this program. “Undergraduate graduates of the Computer Engineering International Class study program are expected to be able to design information networks and computer-based systems systematically in accordance with professional ethics. Many graduates of the Computer Engineering study program are now developing careers as embedded systems / IoT engineers, AI and application developers, big data analysts, network engineers, including those related to cybersecurity,” said Dr. Muhammad Salman.

Meanwhile, the Environmental Engineering study program emphasizes the field of engineering through the approach of Environmental Engineering disciplines, which covers engineering aspects at the planning, design, construction implementation, and management stages of facilities/infrastructure. Mastery of Environmental Engineering is one of the important aspects in planning and implementing environmentally sound construction which will ultimately support the realization of sustainable development.

“The global shift towards a circular economy from a linear economic model has resulted in a significant transformation in the employment structure, where it is estimated that employment in the Renewable Energy and Waste Management sector will increase by 70% by 2030, a rapid growth compared to other sectors. In facing these challenges, we prepared this study program with support from lecturers who are experienced in their fields, complete environmental laboratory facilities, and reliable IT infrastructure,” said Dr. Cindy Rianti Priadi, S.T., M.Sc., Head of Environmental Engineering Study Program FTUI.

Since 1999, FTUI has organized a Joint/Double Degree International Class Undergraduate Program. This program provides opportunities for FTUI students to get high-quality education at the best engineering campuses in Indonesia and abroad. Then, in 2011, FTUI expanded its international education by opening a Single Degree program, where students have the opportunity to study at overseas partner universities for at least one semester and graduate with one bachelor’s degree from UI.

This year, FTUI’s Joint Degree partnership with Monash University was opened for Computer Engineering and Environmental Engineering with a 2+2 year scheme. Head of FTUI International Office Fadhilah Muslim S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., DIC., said, in this scheme students will run two-year lectures at FTUI and two years at Monash University. Later, students of this joint degree program will get two bachelor’s degrees from UI and Monash University. The age limit for applicants for international class programs is five years after graduating from high school and using English as the language of instruction in their lectures.

In addition, as a form of close collaboration with FTUI, Monash University also provides scholarships to FTUI students. The scholarship is awarded in the form of a AUD $20,000 tuition fee discount for a student’s first two years of study at Monash University. The existence of this scholarship is a form of accommodation for FTUI students to be able to access academic and professional experiences in the international scope.

The birth of these two new study programs complements the nine existing international class undergraduate study programs, namely Civil Engineering Study Program, Mechanical Engineering Study Program, Electrical Engineering Study Program, Metallurgical and Material Engineering Study Program, Architecture Study Program, Chemical Engineering Study Program, Industrial Engineering Study Program, Shipping Engineering Study Program, and Bioprocess Engineering Study Program.

For registration for international class programs, you can go through the achievement path – Talent Scouting, or through the written test path – SIMAK UI KI. The Talent Scouting line will open on February 28 – March 22, 2024, while the SIMAK UI KI line will open on June 19 – July 3, 2024 and the test exam on July 8. Complete information regarding this program can be accessed through the www.eng.ui.ac.id, www.international.eng.ui.ac.id, and SIMAK UI (https://simak.ui.ac.id) website. While registration can be done through http://penerimaan.ui.ac.id website.
