Four FTUI Fields Ranked 1st in Indonesia in the QS World University Rankings 2024

Faculty of Engineering Universitas Indonesia (FTUI) continues to show achievements at the international level by successfully ranking 320 in the world on the subject of engineering and technology in the ranking of The Quacquarelli Symonds World University Ranking (QS WUR) by Subject 2024. This position increased from the previous year, which was ranked 335th in the world.

Dean of FTUI, Prof. Dr. Ir. Heri Hermansyah, S.T., M.Eng., IPU., said, “Based on the ranking issued by QS WUR 2024, for broad subject engineering, FTUI occupies the 2nd position in Indonesia, 11th in Southeast Asia, and 99th in Asia. Incredibly, four fields of study at FTUI are recognized as the best engineering fields in Indonesia in QS WUR 2024 specific subject. Two of them, Chemical Engineering and Architecture maintained its position as the best field of study for two consecutive years. While Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering only this year hold the first rank.”

The four fields of study of FTUI that are included in the best engineering studies in Indonesia, including Architecture and Built Environment with the 1st position in Indonesia; 10th Southeast Asia; 64 Asia; and 151-200 worlds. Then, Chemical Engineering occupies the 1st position in Indonesia; 12th Southeast Asia; 110 Asia; and 251-300 worlds. Furthermore, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, which is ranked 1st in Indonesia; 13th Southeast Asia; 111 Asia; and 251-300 worlds. Finally, the field of Mechanical Engineering study managed to rank 1st in Indonesia; 10th Southeast Asia; 109 Asia; and 301-350 worlds.

“The success of FTUI’s four fields in achieving the highest rank in Indonesia is a clear proof of FTUI’s commitment to providing high-quality education and research. This is a proud achievement and together we need to maintain this momentum and continue to spur ourselves to achieve increasingly superior and impactful achievements in the future,” said Prof. Heri.

The QS World University Rankings by Subject 2024 features 55 individual subjects grouped into categories including Arts & Humanities, Engineering and Technology, Life Sciences: Medicine, and Natural Sciences. The number of institutions ranked this year is 1,559 with 64 new universities joining.

The ranking of universities in the world based on this field of science is determined based on an assessment of five indicators, namely academic reputation, the results of a global survey conducted to graduate users and academics, the number of research citations achieved by universities per paper in the subject (all citation data sourced from Elsevier Scopus), the ‘H-index’ which measures the productivity and impact of academic research that has been published, and the International Research Network which reflects the ability of institutions to diversify the geography of their international research networks by establishing sustainable research partnerships with other institutions of higher education.
